Description
The United States National Arboretum, located in northeast Washington DC, is managed by the Agricultural Research Service of the United States Department of Agriculture.
It was established by an act of Congress in 1927 following a campaign by Frederick Vernon Coville, the USDA Chief Botanist.
It covers 446 acres and is located 2.2 mi northeast of the Capitol Building.
There are entrances on New York Avenue NE and R Street NE.
The roads that connect the campus’s gardens, collections, features, and other features are 9.5 miles in length.
There are two research locations on the main campus in Washington, DC: the Henry A. Wallace Beltsville Agricultural Research Center, Beltsville, Maryland, and McMinville, Tennessee.
