Description
The NASCAR Hall of Fame is located in Charlotte, North Carolina.
It honors drivers who have demonstrated exceptional skill at NASCAR racing, great crew chiefs, owners, broadcasters, and other major contributors within the sanctioning body.
NASCAR had committed to building a Hall of Fame.
The City of Charlotte was chosen as the site on March 6, 2006.
The $160 million facility was officially opened on May 11, 2010.
It was inaugurated the day after the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race 2010.
The new Hall of Fame will bring hundreds of jobs to Charlotte and increase tourism.
The NASCAR Plaza, an office building with 20 stories, was also opened in May 2009.
The structure, measuring 390,000-square feet, houses Hall of Fame-related offices as well as NASCAR Digital Media, NASCAR’s licensing division, and NASCAR’s video game licensee Dusenberry Martin Racing, now known as 704Games.
Lauth Property Group and the Charlotte Regional Partnership are other tenants.
Dale Inman and Richard Petty helped to unveil the first Hall of Fame artifact–the Plymouth Belvedere, which Petty drove to 27 wins in 1967.
