Los Angeles County Museum of Art
Museum in Los Angeles, California

Description
Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), an art museum, is located on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles’ Miracle Mile.
LACMA is located on Museum Row, next to the La Brea Tar Pits and George C. Page Museum.
LACMA was established in 1961, after it split from the Los Angeles Museum of History, Science and Art.
It moved to the Wilshire Boulevard complex, designed by William Pereira, four years later.
The museum’s collections and wealth grew in 1980s.
It added many buildings in that decade, as well as in the subsequent decades.
Four buildings on the campus were destroyed to make way for a new facility designed by Peter Zumthor in 2020.
His design was met with strong community opposition.
It was also criticized by museum curators and architectural critics who were critical of its poor design, reduced gallery space, and high costs.
